Trolleys are used to transport either cages or stacks of racks outside of the retort in systems which do not involve automated shuttles to load and unload retorts. Trolleys are made of either galvanized carbon steel or stainless steel. They feature a pair of channels containing idler rollers mounted on a frame which is supported by heavy duty casters.
Retort cages are made of either galvanized carbon steel or stainless steel. They are designed to maximize product capacity for a given retort size and model. In order to provide appropriate water flow around the product, retort cages feature either a perforated metal or wireframe design. The table below outlines the sizes of our standard cage sizes for production retorts. (Note: Other cage sizes are provided for custom applications.)

Tray bases are used for retort applications involving racks which do not require a cage. This is typically the case for static retort applications. Tray bases are usually made of stainless steel and are a tubular steel weldment. They are deigned to interface with both the rack (on the top) and the retort and trolley/conveyor (on the bottom).
Racks are used to hold semi-rigid and flexible product inside retorts. Racks come in a variety of materials and designs. When practical, racks made of injection molded plastic are often used due to their reduced weight and lower cost. Stainless steel racks are used in systems involving automated handling systems which require precise movement and positioning of racks. Regardless of the material, rack designs must provide for proper circulation space around the product.
