New SSA multi-mode immersion retort ready for the market!

The joint venture company of Surdry Stock America (SSA) has just finished initial testing on our multi-mode immersion retort in Spain.  This collaborative effort caps off almost 2 years of rotational retort review and design efforts and will serve as the basis for our innovative line of 1100, 1300 and jumbo 1600 multi-mode retorts.   The IR_134 unit, in stainless steel construction, will be showcased at the Pack Expo show in Oct. 2006.

APR-95 SV Pilot Retort

The joint venture company of Surdry Stock America (SSA), has combined the success of the versatile Surdry and traditional Stock R & D retorts to provide a powerful pilot system that reproduces all process modes with high fidelity and an accurate portrayal of commercial retort variables.   Capable of steam, spray, steam-spray, partial and full immersion, with direct or indirect heating and cooling, the SSA has the ultimate flexibility when combined with our ICON secure edition control platform for any pasteurized or sterilized product.

Oscillating retorts...A sensible alternative

The AO-176 oscillating retort is a production-validated large capacity retort system that extends our product line effectively to provide a sensible alternative to the current industry static or rotary options.

Targeting retail and HRI (institutional) pouches, trays and other sensitive containers, the gentle agitation lends itself to cost effective material handling racks and solutions and decreased cycle times for many products.

Combined with our Flex-rack polymeric racking solution, this system can handle oscillating applications up to 8 cycles per minute and provides a retail pouch throughput of approximately 70 – 100 pouches per minute for each retort.

We have recently completed several installations in the U.S. that combine these retorts with completely automatic, shuttle-based container handling systems.  One operator handles the entire operation through our ICON SE SCADA system with web based data acquisition and recipe management capabilities.

ICON SE Control System Developments...

STOCK America has recently deployed a new web based application that provides database query functions, recipe printout and batch report generation for our latest ICONSE distributed control network.

Why a web application?

Tim Schurr, STOCK’s Manager of Control Engineering, responds…

“The web based application can be accessed from any computer on the network with Microsoft Internet ExplorerTM and Acrobat AdobeTM 6.0 or higher. It reduces the TCO (total cost of ownership) because it is easy to deploy; we don’t have to install components on the client side or worry about any other application conflicts.
Perhaps the best selling point to the customer is their ability to access this vital information from locations remote to the line or production facility. QA and QC personnel at some of the biggest food producers have embraced the new technology.”

STOCK will distribute this new application as a standard with all new retort control systems starting in March, 2006. We can also offer retrofit packages for existing Stock and other manufacturer’s control systems.
